Convert a PTE Academic score into its IELTS Academic equivalent — or the other way around — section by section and overall. The mapping uses Pearson's published anchor points, so the numbers line up with what universities and visa desks actually read.

A concordance is a guide, not a guarantee. Every university and visa stream fixes its own minimum — always check it against the official requirements page.
About this calculator
Admissions teams and immigration officers read PTE and IELTS off the same concordance sheet that Pearson publishes. This tool simply runs that sheet in both directions — PTE to IELTS and IELTS to PTE — so you can see, section by section, how a score on one test would translate onto the other.
How the mapping works
- PTE → IELTS: a PTE whole number falls inside a band and returns the lower IELTS anchor — the conservative reading universities apply to transcripts.
- IELTS → PTE: an IELTS half-band returns the smallest PTE that clears it, so IELTS 7.0 comes back as PTE 65 (the floor of that band).
- Auto Overall: leave the Overall field empty and it is averaged from whichever section scores you entered.

Typical minimums for Nepali applicants
- Undergraduate study: IELTS 6.0–6.5 (PTE 50–58)
- Postgraduate coursework: IELTS 6.5–7.0 (PTE 58–65)
- Research degrees, medicine and law: IELTS 7.0–7.5 (PTE 65–73)
- Australian skilled migration — Proficient: IELTS 7.0+ per band / PTE 65+; Superior: IELTS 8.0+ / PTE 79+
Frequently asked questions
The converter follows Pearson's official PTE Academic to IELTS Academic concordance — the same reference admissions offices, embassies and visa desks consult. Read it as a dependable guide rather than a promise: each institution still sets its own minimum for whichever test it prefers.
PTE is fully computer-based and marked by AI, which many candidates find more comfortable than a live IELTS examiner, and results usually return in about two business days versus three to thirteen for IELTS. Whether it feels easier comes down to you — fast typing and confident microphone speaking tend to push candidates toward PTE.
Both, at every Australian university and across Department of Home Affairs visa streams. Standard undergraduate entry asks for around IELTS 6.5 or PTE 58, while most master's programmes raise that to IELTS 7.0 or PTE 65. Always confirm the figure on the specific course page.
PTE 65 — the floor of the 65 to 72 band that anchors to IELTS 7.0 in Pearson's concordance. For reference, IELTS 6.5 maps to PTE 58, IELTS 7.5 to PTE 73, and IELTS 8.0 to PTE 79.
Each module — Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing — is mapped independently against the concordance, because many universities and visa streams set a minimum per band rather than only an overall floor. Check both the per-section figures and the overall result against your target requirement.
No. This converter is scoped to PTE Academic, the version used for university admission and most skilled-migration paths. PTE Core — used mainly for Canadian economic immigration — relies on a separate concordance mapped against IELTS General Training and CELPIP.
